World Heart Day | “Heart disease and strokes claim 17.1 million lives each year”
National activities such as public talks, health screenings, walks and runs, concerts and sporting events are taking place across the UK, Europe and beyond to mark the day. You can find out whats happening near you by visiting the activities page of the World Heart Foundation website. But its argued that the real action should be taking place at the household level. After all, home is where the heart is.
One of the core messages of World Heart Day 2011 is that lifestyle changes at home can make a significant difference to the risk of having a stroke or contracting heart disease. The benefits of stopping smoking, eating less saturated fat, exercising regularly and knowing your cholesterol levels are made abundantly clear on the World Heart Federation website. Its worth if you get five minutes, especially as it could potentially add years to your life.
As medical travel insurance specialists, we insure travellers who have had a stroke or are living with heart disease on a daily basis. Weve seen the uncertainty it can place on holiday plans. And weve seen the financial disaster it causes when travellers who arent insured for their conditions have an accident related to it while abroad. But we dont see it as a reason not to travel.
Thats why we offer comprehensive cover at a price thats fair, with medical benefits that you can depend on if something unexpected happens. You can find out more on our strokes travel insurance page and our heart conditions travel insurance pages.
