After all, home is where the heart is.

One of the core messages of World Heart Day 2011 is that lifestyle changes at home can make a significant difference to the risk of having a stroke or contracting heart disease. The benefits of stopping smoking, eating less saturated fat, exercising regularly and knowing your cholesterol levels are made abundantly clear on the World Heart Federation website. Its worth if you get five minutes, especially as it could potentially add years to your life.

1. A family reunion

After your kids have moved out of the house, Father’s Day can be a lonely occasion.  Why not make it the date for an annual family reunion?  Grandchildren will be out of school, after all.  Start making plans this year.

2. A promise to make him proud

If your children are old enough, invite them to make a commitment that will better themselves or the world around them.  This year, will they finish that sonata, give one weekend a month to charity, get married, give up swearing?
